"To most readers the word 'fiction' is an utter fraud. They are entirely convinced that each character has an exact counterpart in real life"

Castle might have ended the fifth season with our favorite couple in rocky waters, but the most surprising thing about this season might just have been how smooth the sailing has been for Castle and Beckett. In season five, Castle pulled the most shocking move a show built on a central will-they-won’t-they couple can: it put the main duo in a healthy, happy relationship.

And guess what? The show didn’t immediately implode! In fact, after four years of push and pull and a full season of Castle pining, putting the two crime solvers together opened up a vast amount of new narrative ground to explore.

The conventional wisdom, built on the back of the poor, maligned Bruce Willis dramedy Moonlighting, is that when you resolve the sexual tension the audience has no more reason to watch.

“What if the dance is all we have?” Beckett wondered about her relationship with Castle in the season finale. From a meta perspective, the show had already answered that question after a season proving that putting the two main characters together didn’t change the magic alchemy of the show’s foundation.

101 reasons you need to live in London once

Never a truer word has been spoken and I speak from experience.  All of these made me smile.  So true for us ex-Londoners.  Should be called 101 things you will miss when you leave London.

"To love a TV show is to know one of two things: Either it will eventually leave you, or you will eventually leave it. There’s no middle ground for the committed. Once you’re in, you’re in, and you’re going to be in until the thing is canceled or until you lose interest because you’ve either figured out all of the show’s tricks or it’s just not the same anymore. That show you loved more than anything? It will eventually feel sort of old and pointless to you after a while, and you’ll have moved on to some new thing that feels fresher but will inevitably disappoint you somewhere down the line. And so it goes. You’ll someday remember that show you loved with such intensity—it will probably be off the air by this point—and you’ll wonder idly why they don’t make ’em like that anymore. The answer is because you’re not who you were anymore, and you can’t fall for a show like that because you’re no longer the same person."

Todd VanDerWerff (The A.V. Club)

This quote is perfection. Perfection and the story of my shipping life.  When I’m in the middle of a shipping a show I don’t know how I could ever not be so consumed by it anymore, but then it gets cancelled (aka Ashes to Ashes, CITC) or it’s just not the same anymore (I really do try to love Doctor Who these days but I’m just not as hopelessly invested in it as I was with 9th/10th Doctors).  And then something else magical comes along and you start all over again (aka Castle).  Right now I couldn’t ever be over Castle but one day I guess I will be and that’s okay :)
